Metabolex is a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the discovery and development of novel therapeutics to transform the treatment of diabetes and related metabolic disorders. The Company has drawn on its deep understanding of diabetes to create the largest database of genes involved in diabetes and to build a rich pipeline of product candidates and drug discovery targets. Metabolex’s clinical program is focused on developing next-generation insulin sensitizers that lower blood glucose without the serious safety and tolerability issues associated with currently marketed products. The Company is partnering with Ortho-McNeil, a Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) company, to develop and commercialize products for diabetes and metabolic disease, including Metabolex’s lead drug candidate, MBX-102, a second-generation insulin sensitizer now in a Phase II/III clinical trial. Metabolex has also built a portfolio of other potential diabetes therapeutics, which includes a follow-on type 2 diabetes treatment, MBX-2044, that has been shown to be safe and well-tolerated in early clinical trials; a product candidate in preclinical development and various programs optimizing lead drug candidates. In addition, Metabolex has acquired the rights to a promising treatment for lipid disorders like high cholesterol, MBX-8025, as well as a cannabinoid receptor-1 (CB-1) inverse agonist clinical program, which targets obesity.
